Practical Nursing Job Responsibilities


Practical nursing refers to all those individuals who are licensed to work as nurses but under the direction and the supervision of registered nurses, physicians and doctors. They are at times referred to as licensed practical nurses. They can also assist the surgeons in surgery and have to perform many duties and responsibilities when working as a licensed practical nurse. They are employed in a number of settings such as nursing homes, care facilities, hospitals, physicians etc. A part of their responsibilities is being mentioned here.

Sample Practical Nursing Job Responsibilities

  • It is a part of the responsibilities of a practical nurse to monitor the health condition of the patient for by example taking a note of their temperatures, blood pressure etc.
  • It is a part of the responsibilities of a practical nurse to administer and handle the basic nursing tasks for the patient such as changing the bandages (in case of injuries), and inserting catheters etc.
  • It is a part of the responsibilities of a practical nurse to provide the patients with other basic comforts besides basic nurse care i.e. tasks like helping them bath or help them dress etc.

  • It is a part of the responsibilities of a practical nurse to ensure that the equipments and supplies used in the medical treatment are cleaned or sterilized using germicides.
  • It is a part of the responsibilities of a practical nurse to administer the specific medication, vaccines and treatments that are ordered by the doctor.
  • It is a part of the responsibilities of a practical nurse to report to the registered nurse or the doctor about the status of the patient.
