The main responsibility of transportation engineer is to develop plans for transportation projects and accomplish the projects with allowed policies of government. He is responsible for building policies, strategies and plans for making chart or list of transportation facilities. For reducing traffic problem, he is responsible to make new paths or ways with the modifications in subsisting ways.

- He is responsible for preparing working schedule with full specifications about the project and path maps for illustrating project.
- Transportation engineer is responsible for concerning over the engineering of paths so that modifications can be done as per the clients specification.
- Transportation engineer is responsible for analyzing environmental status of site with other essential transportation information.
- Sometimes transportation engineer is responsible for managing construction work over site and send invitation to brokers and contractor for bidding on that site, then select the highest bid and prepare to work with them.
- Engineer is responsible to accomplish the project within given deadline and being assure about construction principles are followed in project.
- Transportation engineer is responsible for analyzing the quality of material, used in project work to follow safety policies and strategies.
- After completion of project work, transportation engineer is responsible for test drive and approve the road so that any accident can’t take place over there.
