GIS Technician Job Responsibilities

GIS Technicians are the people who make maps, personalize and customize Geographical Information Systems (GIS) applications and influence and use data to serve a large number of purposes. They are responsible to read and interpret maps, manipulate and recognize digital land data and handle data entered into a GIS database.

GIS Technician Job Responsibilities

  • It is the responsibility of the GIS technician to create, maintain and update maps and spatial data using the various GIS software and the related devices.
  •  It is their duty to capture compile and translate the existing and available geographical data from various sources including satellite imagery feel observation and many other. They conduct experiment and researches to locate and attain existing information appropriate for the operations of the organization.
  •  It is their responsibility to understand the requirements of data, projects specifications and accordingly develop applications to get the require result.
  •  They are responsible for operating, maintaining and repairing the GIS system devices including the software hardware printers and all the other required GIS devices.
  • They are responsible for designing and developing an appropriate database structure to help organize the existing data in to and innate logical and rational hierarchy with sagacious working system and command for protecting and organizing spatial data.
  •  It is their responsibility to review the existing data and maps and update them with the latest technologies and software available in the market.
  •  It is their duty to design and build standardized plans and layout for the maps to support the members to understand them in a better way.
  • They are responsible for interpreting and communicating the GIS achievements to the management and team members.
  • It is the responsibility of the technician to ensure that all the safety guidelines and procedures are being followed during the research.
